Van Volxem Altenberg Alte Reben GG 2019

Van Volxem Altenberg Alte Reben GG 2019

The 2019 Altenberg Alte Reben GG opens clear, fresh and intense on the seriously concentrated, deep, complex and thoroughly terroir-driven bouquet that exhibits lemon chutney aromas intertwined with finely weathered, crushed and flinty slate aromas—absolutely fascinating! Round, fresh and piquant, even frisky or playful but also perfectly fine and juicy, this is a crystalline, pure and noble dry Riesling from the spectacular, steep Altenberg, a parcel next to von Hövel's Hörecker, which was cultivated by the Bischöfliche Weingüter until 2002. More and more, Roman Niedwodniczanski and his genius winemaker Dominik Völk are establishing this grand cru vineyard among the Mosel's finest dry Rieslings. The 2019 is definitely one of the finest I have tasted from here. The finish is tight, intense and very long, and it promises enormous aging potential. A great wine. Tasted from AP 19 20 in March 2021.
